Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the upcoming sequel to surprise hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, will officially host its global gameplay premiere at The Game Awards this week on December 8th, 2022. Respawn revealed this in a new tweet, shortly following the game’s Steam mishap, which teased that Survivor is likely going to launch in March 2023.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was received with an unusual amount of praise from Star Wars fans, who have generally been disappointed by EA’s outings with the IP. Star Wars: Squadrons was fairly mixed, and Star Wars Battlefront II is infamous for its disastrous launch, due to its combined lack of content and microtransactions.
Fortunately, Fallen Order boasts a nuanced and thrilling story for the galaxy far, far away, featuring engaging characters that deserve elaboration. Even if it wasn’t an instant classic, the performances and writing are solid, the environments are gorgeous, and the tricky combat system is well worth mastering.
It’s unclear how much footage will be revealed, but hopefully it doesn’t spoil too much. Fans weren’t very happy that Respawn Entertainment even announced the gameplay premiere today.
The Game Awards are hardly in need of hype, so it is a little odd that Respawn would trade surprise for buzz, but it is exciting, nonetheless. Geoff Keighley, longtime host of The Game Awards, hinted that fans could see “lots of it” during the show:
Although Star Wars Battlefront II eventually pulled a 180, adding loads of great content, it was too little, too late. The Fallen Order series is absolutely Respawn’s flagship Star Wars IP, and ideally, they will tease a combination of new mechanics and story beats that will expand on the features that made Fallen Order so successful.
